Exercise Music Taxonomy

My idea for a wearable project is to create a shirt which detects motion from the body to play music. The music will only continue to play if the body continues to move. The idea is to have the mechanism detect if things like walking, running, or jumping are occurring.

Motivations: Motivation is probably the key component to the whole project since the shirt itself serves to motivate someone to exercise by rewarding with music. Hopefully, music is enough of a motivation for the user to approach and continue the activity.

Expectations: I think that most people approaching this wearable would feel encouraged to exercise, but would not feel like this would truly heighten their workout. However, imagine listening to a song and having it stop mid-way, or even during a chorus. I think the music itself will inspire the user to continue moving at least until a good ending point in the song.

Associations: Some people might attempt to match the beat of the song to their activity. It would certainly keep the rhythm of their exercise intact and further their enjoyment with the wearable.

Sounds: Obviously, the small speaker provided in our class kits does not output amazing sound quality. But, it really only takes a catchy melody to draw someone in. Regardless of skepticism, the music can speak for itself in both its intrigue and consistency.

Control: There isn't much control to speak of when approaching this wearable. But, during exercise, a motion sensor will detect if someone is engaging in athletic activity, and subsequently, the speaker will play sections of a song until no longer detected.

Accomplishment (9): Once a user gets used to exercising with the music, they will find accomplishment in not only keeping up with the music, but continue to feel accomplishment from actually generating it.

Validation (10): I would imagine that after some time with this wearable, someone might see how many times they can play a song without stopping exercising, and in turn, the music. This is maybe a way of validating their repetitions during a workout.
